Th
is week, we are talking about our favorite photo. I have many pictures from my trip to Australia, New Zealand, and Alaska last year. I’ve been working on sorting them into specific albums and posting memories from the trips on Facebook.
I don’t have many pictures from my early years. Two years ago, I discussed a picture of the three Pelz (pronounced brothers, Valerian, Albert, and Anton. Albert (Wojciech in his native Polish). Albert is my paternal great-grandfather. I’m sticking with Dad’s side of the family again for 2025. It’s one of my dad and me, and I’m 8 days old, just home from the hospital.
My mom and dad had a true love match. My parents married, then found out I was on the way a couple of months later. They were both 22 and fought for their relationship. My father’s side accepted the marriage, but my mother’s side did not. I love looking at this picture of Dad when he was so young. It just says to me that nothing mattered when they brought me home from the hospital.
As genealogists, we often look at pictures of history and families to bring context and life to our client reports, blogs, and articles. These pictures add life to the words on the page, often saying more than what we write.
