Hello! This blog is a little later being published. I traveled to Cleveland with a friend to attend the Eagles/Steve Miller Band concert on October 17th. It’s timely considering this week’s topic.
The friend I traveled with is like a sister to me. We’ve known each other since we attended college together and had the same major. It was more years than we like to admit at times, but I’m fortunate to have her as my “sister from another mister”. The concert was fantastic. It’s hard to put into words how good the live music was. We had nosebleed seats. Be that as it may, we still had a fabulous sideview of the stage. I’m so grateful to have shared this experience with her.
Friends have shaped my genealogical journey over the last three years. I have met such great instructors, mentors, and peers. They have provided a support system for me within the genealogical community. Their feedback has helped me become better at my craft. I know I can reach out to them for assistance at any time. Friends make up one strategy we as genealogists use to glean information for our family history research. It’s called the FAN club, as coined by Elizabeth Shown Mills, a pioneer of modern genealogical research and a hero of mine. This concept utilizes research of a person’s friends and family, associates, and neighbors. I’m using it right now for research in a class I’m taking. We have a class case study with research in English records. According, we are finding some useful clues to determine if we have the right person. It’s great to be able to discuss what we see with others in the zoom room.
Here’s to friends – those that help us in our personal lives, and those that help us solve genealogical mysteries.
Next blog topic is “Dig a Little Deeper”. Until then, I wish you to be safe, happy, joyful, and surrounded by friends.
