I’m a couple weeks late writing this blog about Longevity. I am feeling much better and just returned from a trip to Cleveland, Ohio, to see the Eagles on their Long Goodbye tour. It’s the third time I’ve seen the band. I was not disappointed. 52 years- that is some musical longevity! I also went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which was amazing and overwhelming. It’s a place I’d like to visit again.

I’ve mentioned that both of my parents died early due to disease, my mom at age 33 and my dad at age 53. As for more of my family genealogical longevity, I have some who lived to be quite old. One of my maternal 2x great-grandfathers, Martin Freeman Barber, was the oldest person for a time in our home county. He died in 1925 at the age of 92. It was even mentioned in the newspaper.

My paternal grandmother, and most of her siblings lived to be in their late 80’s to mid-90’s. Most of that side, unless they meet with disease or accidents, live to be quite old.

The oldest, so far, is my 2x great-grandfather, Adam Pelz[c]. He is listed as being anywhere between 97 and 102. He was born in Austria, now Poland, and died in Alberta, Canada.

I may never know exactly how old Adam was at the time of his death. That is dependent on whether I can find a definitive record of his birth. Dates were not always completely accurate. Birthdates were not as important as they are now.

That’s it for longevity. The next blog topic is about “Travel”. Until then – I hope you are enjoying your October.
