Well, this week’s topic for the #52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks Challenge is Pets. Now, I love my pets, especially cats. I’ve had some wonderful ones over the years. Currently, I have four cats, Abby, Lily, Finley, and Kiki Dee.

Abby is a beautiful calico with orange, white, and black markings. I got her when she was about four months old. She is the elder statescat of the house. She likes to sleep behind my head when I’m sitting in the living room, and generally sleeps with me at night.

Lily is a reformed street kitty. She is a grey tiger, with very long hair (we think she is a combination of breeds). She is a tough girl who lost her tail when she was less than a year old after being caught in a trap. She is also diabetic, which was discovered about two years ago. She’s doing well though. Lily has big green eyes,

Finley is a classic tortoiseshell calico. She’s a talker but is such a sweet-natured kitty. She is the most adventurous one of the four. She likes to jump up on the mantel and watch out the window for birds. We call her the perimeter watcher.

Kiki Dee is a senior cat adopted from a senior home. She is known as the agoraphobic cat because she rarely comes out of the spare bedroom. She is white, with grey markings on her head. She has huge paws with claws, much to the dismay of her feline siblings. She is a gentle girl who does not like thunderstorms!

Pets add so much to our households, and our lives. I appreciate how this topic for the Ancestor’s challenge allows me the opportunity to write about my cats and document them as part of my family history.
